Please bring your booking reference with you to collect your tickets from the box office. We accept all major credit and debit cards, incurring a cost of £1 per transaction and can post your tickets for 50p. We no longer accept cheques as payment for bookings. All tickets must be paid for at time of booking, tickets cannot be reserved.

Refunds and exchanges

We regret we cannot refund tickets however we can exchange for another event. Tickets for exchange must be received at the box office at least 24 hours before the original performance.

Reduced price tickets

Reductions apply to senior citizens, students in full-time education, registered disabled, wheelchair users and their companion, unemployed and 16s and under. Please bring proof of entitlement. Group discounts are available where indicated. The management reserves the right to introduce discounts and other price changes without notice.

Early Bird Offer: £2.00 off the price of your ticket for the events, Juan Martin, Tarras, Globe, Peatbog Faeries & Jacqui Dankworth, if you book in advance before Monday 30th April.

4events: Book for 4 or more events in this season and receive 10% off the price of your tickets. (This offer excludes, the jazz or cafe concerts and any community events). This offer is only applicable if booked in advance of the date of the first event booked. You can only receive this offer by booking via phone or in person.

The management reserves the right to change the venue, the artist or the programme without notice. On occasions St Donats Arts Centre may have to cancel an event at short notice, on such occasions you will be refunded the ticket price. Cameras and other recording devices are not allowed. Please switch off mobile phones. We will endeavour to seat latecomers as soon as there is a suitable break in the performance, although this may not be until the interval. All information in this brochure is correct at time of going to print.

History & Development

St Donats Arts Centre is an independent arts charity housed within the site of Atlantic College at St Donats Castle, 2.5 miles from Llantwit Major and 22 miles west of Cardiff. The Centre grew out of the use of the medieval Tythe Barn at St Donats; converted for the artistic activities of Atlantic College in the early 1970s. In 1976 it was established as an independent limited company and registered charity, to serve as an Arts Centre for the communities of the Vale of Glamorgan. In 1977 work began on the major development of the Tythe Barn, converting it into a professionally equipped performance venue with additional exhibition and office space.

During the 1980s the centre was instrumental in establishing Music Theatre Wales and continued its involvement in music through the work of the Vale of Glamorgan Festival.  In 1993 the Centre launched the renowned Wales International Storytelling Festival, Beyond the Border. In 1995 the Centre drew up plans for a major capital redevelopment. This was largely completed in 1998 with a total £1.25m capital investment from the Welsh Office, The Foundation for Sport and the Arts, The Mousetrap Charitable Trust and the Arts Council of Wales lottery funding.

The resulting facilities for the Centre now include:

• the Tythe Barn Theatre (maximum capacity: 205 seated);
• the Glass Room (maximum capacity: 140 seated)
  • both of which are used for live professional events, community and participatory activities.
• the Gallery which has a regular programme of exhibitions
• a fully equipped meeting room.

Welcome to St Donats Arts Centre

Spring is in the air and summer will soon be upon us, so as we look forward to the sunshine and late evenings, St Donats has programmed a lively and heady mix of events for you to enjoy in this idyllic location by the sea.

We open the season with The Budapest Café Orchestra, music from Eastern Europe; Juan Martin, a celebrated virtuoso of the flamenco guitar; Tarras hailing from the north of England and the borders of Scotland with their unique musical style. The ever popular Amigos return with an expansive repertoire which include, Trad Gypsy, Tex Mex, Calypso & Hungarian to name but a few; The “Best Live Act” Peatbog Faeries bring a true flavour of traditional Scottish music for one night only. Then stand to attention for the Siren Sisters, crooning tunes from the 40’s followed by one of the country’s leading jazz vocalists Jacqui Dankworth.

Something for the little ones with Stage Door 1’s Winnie the Pooh; our popular annual visit by Globe Touring and “Hamlet”; St Donats Acoustic Festival with a showcase of over 34 Artists. Just to add to the summer mix, we have the ever popular jazz & cafe concerts, castle tours and of course our community classes and monthly exhibitions. Also for this Summer “Beyond the Border – Wales International Storytelling Festival sets up camp on 29th June – 1st July.

This course, set in St. Donats Arts Centre’s beautiful Glass Room, provides a fun and relaxed atmosphere that lets imaginations run free! No experience required.
